The Most Democratic of Food Festivals

Head for the Welsh Borders over the weekend of 15 and 16 September for the ninth Abergavenny Food Festival.  The ‘Glastonbury of Food Festivals’ is known for its carnival atmosphere, with crowds thronging the streets enjoying the lively market ambience, complete with street performers and music.

Tucked away in hotel ballrooms, auctioneers salerooms and church halls some of the leading lights of the UK food scene will hold forth on their particular passion. Wine tastings, cookery demonstrations, polemic and debate will be led by a glittering cast of experts, enthusiasts and entertainers from all over the food world.
The full special events programme is still under wraps, but it’s anticipated the line-up will include: Angela Hartnett, Michelin-starred Chef Patron at The Connaught and protégé of Gordon Ramsey; James Oseland, Editor-in-Chief of Saveur (leading US foodie magazine); Clarissa Dickson Wright, author, food historian, and national favourite for her gastronomic adventures in the BBC’s “Two Fat Ladies” series; Anissa Helou, leading expert on the cuisines of the Mediterranean and the Middle East; Allegra McEvedy,  the culinary brains behind the London-based restaurant chain “Leon”; Mitch Tonks, Founder of Fishworks and Tatler’s Restaurateur of the Year (2006); and Pembrokeshire-based forager Yun Hider.
The Abergavenny Food Festival has been described by  Matthew Fort in The Guardian (Nov 2006) as “The most democratic of food festivals, the most easy-going, the most celebratory”.  To find out why, visit www.abergavennyfoodfestival.com and get regular updates. The full programme will be announced in July when box office goes live.
This Food Festival is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government, Capital Region Tourism, Adventa and Monmouthshire County Council.
