Saturday

11.00am - Songs of food, drink and celebration!
The return of the hugely popular singing workshop led by Chrys Blanchard of the Natural Voice Practitioners’ Network.


12.00 noon - Rum & Rumours, Part 1
Comic author Ian Marchant, known to many as the surreal cabaret crooner Your Dad, sets out to unravel the extraordinary life and times of Charlie Phillips, aka Smokey Joe, Windrush immigrant,  sometime  paparazzi photographer, rock’n roll chef and the proprietor of Smokey Joe’s celebrated Caribbean diner. Where will it lead?


12.45pm - Kaloi k’Agathoi Community Interest Company
Young performers play excerpts from their upcoming Borough Theatre show Clouds, a new musical adaptation of the Aristophanes satire, backed by hip Hereford band The Anomalies.


2.00pm - New Theatre Works present Another Cook Up!
Riotous cookery demonstration from well-seasoned comedy performers Chloe Harbour, Vivian Soan and
Ellie Parker.


1.30pm - Daniel Morden
Food themed stories suitable for adults and children from one of the UK’s leading professional story-tellers. Daniel’s most recent book Dark Tales from the Woods was the winner of a Welsh Books Council Award in 2007.


3.30pm - Little Rumba
Melodic music from Festival favourites.


4.15pm - Rum & Rumours, Part 2
More meanderings with Smokey Joe and Your Dad. (see above)


Sunday

Cosmic Sausages11.00am - The Cosmic Sausages
This quintessential show-band are on a never-ending European tour. If you missed them in Prague in 1993 or Neuchatel in 2004, make sure you catch them here. Over a 100 songs, melodies and theme tune, mixing theatre, circus, slapstick, competitions, crowd participation and insane walkabouts (pictured right).

Your Dad and Smokey Joe pick up where they left off.

Romantic guitar, violin and saxophone.

AT THE CASTLE AND AROUND THE TOWN

 

Bord y Gegin/The Kitchen Table

Pull up a chair at Bord y Gegin/ The Kitchen Table with itinerant chef and Radio 4 Food Programme presenter Gerard Baker. Gerard and his team have created a rolling menu of delicious dishes, using ingredients sourced from within 20 miles of the Festival

 

Arts Alive - flags and banners, majestic bird puppets and children’s food-themed workshops.


Lady Christobel and her ButlerLady Christobel and Her Butler - assesses the quality of the food, and the visitors, creating astonishment and mirth. (pictured right).


Save the Flavours - interactive installation about forgotten foods and flavours, lovingly collected and revitalised by Once – arts and ceremonies.


Stickleback Plasticus - provide the festival with the accident prone St Joan’s Ambulance, blazing a trail of self-destruction.


Kaloi k'Agathoi Community Interest Company - excerpts from Clouds, a new musical adaptation of Aristophanes' satire by featuring a cast of fresh new Marches talent and Hereford band The Anomalies.

Plus a lively collection of talented musicians playing in the streets and castle grounds.

Culinary Exhibits at the Abergavenny Museum
FREE ENTRY

Abergavenny Museum tells the story of this historic market town. Popular displays include Basil Jones’ Grocery Store and a Victorian Welsh Kitchen. Features include an Activity Room for children. At certain times we offer workshops led by museum staff. (Please contact us before your visit to find out about forthcoming workshops). Purchase a souvenir of your visit from our well-stocked gift shop. For further information call 01873 854282.

 

The castle site closes promptly at 5 o’clock on Saturday

The Finals of the Primary Schools’ Cookery Competition

FREE with General Entry Ticket
Over 300 children from 9 primary schools in Abergavenny entered. Now we are down to the last three who compete under the expert eye of our guest judge and compere Cyrus Todiwala of Cafe Spice Namaste. He is assisted by Franco Taruschio, Iain Sampson Head Chef at The Newbridge near Usk, and Julie Barratt from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
